ABSTRACT
The protection of the image of public officials, including police officers, has long been a subject of interest in legal scholarship and judicial practice. Despite existing academic and regulatory frameworks, the legal landscape in this area continues to evolve rapidly, influenced by developments in information technology and the growing role of social media in documenting the activities of public authorities. This issue has a universal dimension and extends beyond the Polish legal system, for example, due to copyright-related protection of personal images. This article examines the current legal framework in Poland regarding the protection of police officers’ images, with particular emphasis on the balance between the right to privacy and protection of personal rights on one hand, and the principle of transparency in public life and citizens’ right to information on the other. The study aims to highlight this balance and to identify interpretative and practical challenges arising from existing regulations and case law.
